This component focuses on protecting and restoring forests, wetlands, and other critical ecosystems that support both biodiversity and local livelihoods. These environments, increasingly threatened by deforestation, agricultural expansion, and climate change, are home to many endemic and endangered species. The project promotes ecosystem restoration through reforestation, assisted natural regeneration, and wetland rehabilitation to maintain ecological functions and water regulation. It also strengthens community-managed conservation areas, empowering local populations to act as stewards of natural resources. Targeted actions include biodiversity monitoring, habitat protection, and reducing threats such as illegal logging and wildlife exploitation. Community-based surveillance systems and collaboration with authorities will enhance environmental law enforcement. The project further supports ecological connectivity by restoring biological corridors, ensuring species survival and ecosystem resilience. Participatory monitoring and scientific data collection will guide adaptive management. Overall, this approach integrates conservation with community engagement to preserve ecological integrity while supporting sustainable development.
